On the basis of the methods above, the performance of various kinds of materials for solar screens has been investigated, including metal mesh grids, perforated metal screens, and wooden screens. At present, concerns regarding the overall daylight quality of the indoor environment in a room with different shading devices have been increasing, and the research methods have been expanded to a wider range of simulations, regarding daylight, visual comfort, and energy demand, by using climate-based computer-aided dynamic simulation tools. Conventional research on the performance evaluation of shading devices has primarily focused on standard solar transmission (e.g., solar heat gain coefficient) and visible daylight transmittance. Moreover, much research has been conducted on using solar screens more effectively by adjusting their application methods on the basis of the facade orientation and shading periods. Numerous studies have been conducted on improving the shading performance of solar screens by optimizing their geometrical dimensions, perforation percentages, and textures. As one of the most commonly used external shading devices, a solar screen can efficiently scatter and redirect daylight. Regarding the operable and geometrical property, current solar shading systems consist of the fixed solar shading screen, fixed overhang, grating, operable solar shading screen, Venetian blinds, shutters, and roller blinds. Many studies have demonstrated that external shading presents a better solar shading performance than internal and intermediate shading. On the basis of spatial positions, solar shading devices can be divided into three categories, namely, external intermediate and intermediate shading systems. Specifically, solar shading systems contribute significantly to controlling glare, regulating solar radiation, homogenizing illuminance levels, and protecting privacy. Using solar shading systems for natural cooling and daylighting control is an extensively researched topic in the area of energy-efficient building design. Optimized building skins can significantly reduce energy consumption for space heating, cooling, and electric lighting. This study illustrated the superiority of the nonuniform woven solar shading screens, which supports a wider application of solar shading screens made of other materials with similar structures and reflectance values. Furthermore, this study proposed two optimal configurations: a screen woven of square sticks and battens with a distance of 10 mm between them, and a screen woven of round sticks and battens with a distance of 8 mm between them. Regarding the structural strength, the screen with a size smaller than or equal to 1 × 1 m withstood a wind load of 12 m/s. Moreover, the screen effectively reduced the negative impact of glare to a level below “imperceptible” and enabled a relatively clear view through the window and shading. The results showed that the nonuniform woven solar shading screen reduced up to 80.3% of the solar radiation gain in a room during summer months while ensuring a relatively even distribution of useful daylight during the year. Then, a series of daylighting simulations were conducted to optimize the configuration of the screen. An on-site experiment and ANSYS simulation were carried out to investigate the basic solar optical performance and structural strength of the proposed screen, respectively. The sustainable material, namely, bamboo, was used as the demonstration material for the screen. This study investigated the potential of using a nonuniform woven panel with nonuniform strips-thick sticks and thin battens-as an external solar shading screen that addressed daylighting, shading, and mechanical performance factors. Pricing is still unavailable at this time. The Synology RT2600AC is now available and should roll into retail channels shortly. Of course, the other VPN standards are also supported such as SSTP, OpenVPN, and L2TP over IPSec. Once VPN Plus is set up, users outside the network can VPN into the RT2600AC using any browser through the web based VPN or via a client for Synology’s SSL VPN. Synology is also introducing an optional VPN Plus add-on package which allows users easily to transform the router into a VPN solution. To make management easier, the RT2600AC also comes with Synology Router Management 1.1, which includes new features such as network mapping. The Synology RT2600AC also features five Gigabit Ethernet ports, a USB 3.0 port, a USB 2.0 port, and a SD card slot. VPN Plus Server is a virtual private network server that allows administrators to set up Synology routers as a VPN server to allow remote access to resources behind the router. Powering the RT2600AC is a dual-core 1.7 Ghz processor along with 512MB of DDR3 DRAM which manages features such as load balancing, QoS and advanced security features. If the port of your SSL VPN connection is not 443, please attach the VPN's port number to. Enter the information below and tap Connect : Domain name or IP: Enter the domain name or public IP address of your Synology Router. In order to achieve this, the RT2600AC features MU-MIMO which ensures a dedicated antenna for each receiver/transmitter radio pair to ensure the best possible performance even if there are many users on the network. On your iOS device, open Apple App Store to download and install Synology VPN Plus. Need an easy to use VPN server Already have a Synology Router Lets check out VPN Plus server and see how easily Synology can enable your remote workforc. From there you just fiddle with permissions settings, VPN parameters etc.Synology is getting ready to launch their RT2600AC router which we recently saw at CES 2017.īeing the best router Synology has to offer for home/small office users, the RT2600AC supports all the latest Wi-Fi standards including 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, boasting up to 1,733Mbps on the 5.2GHz band and 800Mbps on the 2.4GHz band for a total throughput of up to 2,533Mbps. Tell the router to authenticate on the IP and correct port of the NAS. Example Quick connect ID user123 Full ID You also need to make sure the user ID and password are correct and enabled in the router config security with allow VPN Plus access selected. Make sure the router can use radius auth for the VPN setup you want on the router. Setup a quick connect id and then from the mobile VPN Plus client enter the ID instead of the URL or IP. Create users on your NAS (local users or LDAP if you need more features like grouping permissions etc) and install the Radius package and configure it to auth against the local users or LDAP users. Launch a web browser and enter the VPN Plus web portal URL in the address bar. Or their support might have a walkthrough. I would bet the synology forums (if they have them) will have someone who has done this before. They are 2 parts that work together to provide authentication and authorization (who can login, and what they are allowed to do when they login) for any devices that can talk to them.įrom there it gets much more furry because radius has a lot of parts in it and LDAP has a lot of parts in it and the devices that need to talk to them have a lot of parts.įortunately having both your devices run Synology software should help. Radius is an authentication and authorization (and other related stuff) service that talks to a variety of back end directory services (flat file, local user, SQL, LDAP/AD, etc). In my point of view, LDAP is a directory service that provides information about users and user groups and other resources like servers or whatever. I haven't messed with either of your products but given that they are consumer oriented it will probably be hard to get under the covers and tinker and look at the debug and stuff so if you can keep things simple it will make your life easier. TBH use a VPN client access and then VNC/RDP client on you remote device: it works better. Synology Remote Desktop: A web-based VNC/RDP client to access VNC/RDP servers. The NAS has a radius package, I would bet the router uses more or less the same thing: Synology WebVPN: Unlike the above, WebVPN is a clientless method to access web applications, but not other services, using just a web browser. Well this is one of those things where getting your feet and hands and ears wet is the best way to get started and as long as you are working in the LAN where you are setting it up, you can't mess up too much as long as you are careful with passwords and don't rush things. A robust culture means there exists within an organization a strong, vigorous environment for learning, accomplishment, and growth. The integration of 3rd party systems had not been done with any other software prior to that with which I'd worked and I certainly loved figuring out how to overcome those challenges with my team, although it was no easy task. A robust culture is the result of nurturing individual and team spirit. The part I enjoyed the most were the opportunities for learning on a constant basis. That could lead to delays and altered project scope after these had already been set in the project charter. The software cost is considered affordable (1.6/5) when compared to alternative solutions. TeamSpirit received a rating of 4.1 from ITQlick team. This required management and legal to become involved from time to time. What is TeamSpirit TeamSpirit is a leading cloud-based Human Resources software, it is designed to support small and medium size business. The most difficult part of the job was dealing with 3rd party software developers integrating their product with our back-end as the business relationship was that of partner/competitor. This highlights the team spirit we have and its rewarding to see that big fat zero appear just before the weekend. The teams were quite diverse and extremely knowledgeable in their fields and we enjoyed great support from local management. The workplace culture was quite open and employees felt free to speak their minds honestly. Team spirit: ability to work efficiently with peers, manage the conflicts with diplomacy. For example, "Nuclear Mission Jam" plays not only during Questionable Ethics, but also earlier, at the start of the chapter Apprehension. There are a few differences regarding the soundtrack. Most interaction sounds, such as buttons, doors, and breakable objects, are reused from Half-Life 2.There are also small level design changes to make the game look better, for instance in surface tension the sand was improved and made less flat while in the original game it was made flat.So take care not to run into the units while it's moving, as it can heavily injure or kill the player. The surgical units in Questionable Ethics stop and start slowly after pressing the button, while in the original Half-Life they stop and spin instantly. In Residue Processing, pressing the switch to halt the crushers on the conveyor will stop them indefinitely until the switch is pressed again, instead of resuming on their own after a while. Some crates require more hits to break than the original game.Bullets can penetrate through breakable glass panes without breaking it.Peters' corpse appears near the surgical unit, while it was only gibs in the original Half-Life.A good example is in the chapter Questionable Ethics, where the player could skip the surgical unit and laser event. Pressing the "USE" key through a wall is no longer possible.Water has been overhauled to look clean, so it is easier to see through it.The canyon in the chapter Surface Tension has major changes, such as a more realistic look. Also the floating barrels are blue, like those in Half-Life 2. At the start of the chapter Apprehension, the puzzle in which floating barrels must be released from a cage to make a bridge, now has a partially sunken metal walkway, raised by the barrels.Environment subtitles are supported however, they are presented below the health HUD.It is not compatible with any GoldSrc or Source mods. In addition, all chapters can be selected upon starting the game for the first time, unlike Half-Life. The game's front-end user interface has also been overhauled to resemble that of Half-Life 2, with a chapter selection and dynamic menu backgrounds featuring scenes from the game. Some additional optimizations have been made, however, such as increased quality textures, the replacement of drawn bitmap skies with 3D skyboxes, and the addition of new or improved atmospheric effects in some areas. Almost all of the same assets are used, and most of the differences are due to the fundamental features of the new engine (more detailed lighting and water effects, for example). Peregines prefer sheltered ledges on the sides of cliffs – or skyscrapers – but in Victoria they have also been known to roost in hollows of towering river red gum trees and in nests stolen from birds with better construction skills. The falcons are ruthless in defending their patch, Hurley says, and nesting sites are prized. There is also a report of a female peregrine falcon killing a wedge-tailed eagle in a territorial dispute. Hurley says he has seen a female peregrine falcon take down an ibis before, although she gave herself a concussion in the effort and, because it was three times her bodyweight, she was unable to take it back to her nest. The male adult falcon nesting at Collins Street specialises in sparrows and starlings, while the female brings in bigger pigeons. “I suppose it’s an artefact of an adrenaline-based lifestyle – they are the fastest animal on the planet and they tend to live hard and fast,” Hurley says. They can live for up to 16 years but most don’t make it beyond six. Just 10% of fledglings go on to have a successful breeding season of their own. “In previous years those fledglings that were going to succumb were dead by this stage.” “All the prey is in really good condition so it doesn’t have the parasite load,” he says. Those urban green spaces are essential to maintaining the health of the falcons, says Hurley. With a wetter spring providing an abundance of food in green spaces including Albert Park Lake and the botanical gardens, the small birds in the city are in better condition. In drier conditions, their prey – street pigeons, starlings and sparrows – are riddled with parasites, which can kill the fledglings. This is the most successful breeding season for the Collins Street falcons in three years, Hurley says. They are the fastest animal on the planet and they tend to live hard and fast Victor Hurley, Victorian Peregrine Project The site has been used for decades by pairs of falcons but only one pair at a time, and all have shown a preference for this corner, which Hurley says allows them to gather the morning sun but ensures their chicks don’t cook on hot spring afternoons. The company marketed its oil burners nationwide. Louis, MO-based company that saw the potential of a clean-burning fuel like oil. LOUIS IN THE 30s International Heating Company (known today as Nordyne) was a St. As early as 1924, Domestic Engineering, an oil burning trade magazine, predicted that by 1930, there would be at least eight million oil burner installations for heating purposes. Oil-burning furnaces did not spring up overnight in the late 30s. Today NOCO Energy employs over 700 people in a number of business entities, totaling $150 million in annual sales. Its chairman emeritus, Don Newman, remembers, “He decided to peddle his oil burner service business because oil burners had many more controls than the coal-burning furnaces.”īy the time the younger Newman joined the business in 1954, there were eight employees. The company he founded is now known as NOCO Energy. Reginald Newman eventually switched from coal to selling oil-burning furnaces and kerosene heaters in the late 30s. “He borrowed a couple of hundred dollars, bought a truck, and started selling coal door to door in Buffalo (NY).” “My dad was uneducated and suffered from job losses at the end of the Depression,” said his son, Don. He now had a family to support, but he lacked any formal training, and jobs were scarce. His wife had just given birth to a son, Don, and had to quit her job as a schoolteacher. Newman was a young man with a young family in 1933. The company is now run by the fourth generation, Gregg and Scott Althoff, and Scott Carney. “On hot days, we would put big chunks of ice by the blower of the coal furnace and cool off the house,” he chuckled.Īs oil heat evolved into the popular mode of keeping homes warm, Wisconsin Fuel added oil, gasoline, and diesel fuel to its delivery schedule while it phased out coal delivery. The younger Althoff has fond memories of the coal furnaces of the time. The company would eventually get into installation and service of coal furnace stokers in the 50s. In the 1930s, Wisconsin Fuel concentrated on delivering coal and wood to customers with coal-burning and wood-burning stoves. Edward eventually talked his father into joining the company, along with family members John and Leon. The company was founded by Althoff’s father, Edward, in 1923. “My grandfather was very good with customers, but when the Cubs were in town, he would occasionally take me down to the game,” Althoff said. |
